Godrej Expert Rich Crème Hair Color Burgundy - Review

Many of you have given me a lot of compliments on my hair but do you guys know that I have a grey hair problem? Unfortunately, night shifts, stress, irregular sleeping habits etc have all worked in tandem over the last few years to give me this unwelcome gift :(. Not as if my hair is completely grey but there are quite a number of them and I have to color my hair to keep them covered. I usually don't go for highlights/lowlights or globally coloring my hair. Instead I prefer to touch up the roots once in 6 months and I prefer doing it myself. I see no point paying a lot of money to do something at a salon that one can do easily at home. I've been a L'Oreal hair color fan but this time tried out the all new Godrej Expert Rich Crème Hair Color which the brand claims to be the Best Ever hair Colour!

Is the claim true? Read on to find out what I think of it..

Godrej Expert Rich Crème Hair Color Burgundy

Godrej Expert Rich Crème is priced at an unbelievable Rs. 30/- for a single use pack, which has a sachet each of colour & developer. The best part is Godrej Expert Rich Crème perfectly maintains the quality of your hair, as it has zero ammonia to help retain the protein content in
your hair and keep it strong. The in-built aloe protein and conditioners, easy-to-use sachets and amazing fragrance make colouring a pleasurable experience! It is available in 5 shades:
  • Natural Black
  • Black Brown
  • Dark Brown
  • Natural Brown
  • Burgundy

Directions for Use: Pour the developer and the colorant into the mixing bowl and blend them well. Apply this mixture on clean hair and leave for 30 minutes before rinsing with water.

I'll be very honest with you when I say that I was very apprehensive of using this color on my hair when I first received it. Won't say I'm a brand snob but I'm pretty careful of what I put on my hair and a Rs. 30 sachet did not ignite a lot of enthusiasm. I thought I would use my mum as a guinea pig and asked her to try the Dark Brown shade which thankfully she agreed to. And to my surprise gave very good feedback. She said that the color does not have that horrible pungent chemical smell, is very easy to use, does not drip, applies evenly, washes off easily, does not lead to hairfall and gives a nice rich color. Encouraged by her feedback, I decided to use the Burgundy color on myself and I have to say that I'm pretty impressed with the quality of this product.

The packaging is simple but very easy to use. I don't expect something priced at Rs 30 to include a pair of gloves, conditioner, etc. that you get with the pricier hair color packs but this is designed to just do its job. Inside the pouch are two sachets of the developer and color and all you need to do is mix both in a plastic or glass bowl and apply to the hair. No jhamela of measuring as that has been done for us. If you have short to shoulder length hair, one sachet will be enough but if you have longer hair, you will need 3 - 4 of these. Since I was only interested in coloring the crown area, it was sufficient for me.

I absolutely agree to my mum's feedback. That headache inducing pungent smell is not there instead it has a lovely floral fragrance. The mixture does not drip and applies evenly and I did not experience any hairfall or irritation on my scalp while putting in on and even after. The first time, I did not apply shampoo but rinsed it off and applied conditioner and I was pleasantly surprised at how soft and smooth my hair felt after it dried. Exactly the same, if not better than L'Oreal or Wella! Since my hair already is colored, the burgundy did not come out very striking but i can definitely see it when light hits my hair and it looks quite lovely. And the best part is that it covers all grey hair. It has only been 4 days since I colored my hair so can't really comment on how long this lasts but my mum's color  started fading after about 20-25 days so that's definitely a con for those who have a lot of grey hair. I hope Godrej does something in this area.

Overall, a very good quality budget hair color that I will recommend. And using this product has taught me something very valuable - do not turn your nose up at something till you try it!
