Maybelline Valentine Edition InstaGlam Box - Pics

Hiya everyone! Hope you all are doing great. I just came back yesterday from my trip to Singapore where I had a fab time with my family and friends. My elder brother and his family are settled there so I try and visit at least once a year to spend time with them and of course shop to my hearts content :D. Will share pics of the trip and my haul very soon.

Yesterday when I came home, I was feeling quite low because I was missing my seven year old niece a lot and that's when my mum handed me a big box saying this will probably cheer you up. I opened the box and it sure brought a big smile to my face. The box was the new Maybelline Valentine Edition InstaGlam box and it was packed with products I love!

Maybelline had earlier come out with a Christmas InstaGlam box which was excellent but the Valentine's one is definitely my favorite of the two. Why? Because it contains the new Lip Polish and a Color Tattoo eye shadow. The InstaGlam box is available in three colors - red, pink and coral and I was sent the pink box by the lovely people at Maybelline. The box looks so pretty with the pink cover and the see through cut out of a heart. These are the products that I got in my box:

  • Colossal Kajal
  • Color Show Nail Color in Keep-up-the-Flame
  • Hypercurl Mascara
  • Color Tattoo in Painted Purple
  • Lip Polish in Glam 2

In a pink box, I would have expected the nail polish and lip polish to be pink in color but nonetheless, I love the selection. The MRP of the box is Rs 1300 but you can buy it for Rs 999 at all leading e-commerce portals.

The InstaGlam box is not only an all inclusive makeup kit, but is also the perfect gifting item that won't break your bank! To the men reading this post, if you are still wondering what to give the lady in your life on V day, the InstaGlam box will be an excellent choice. And to the ladies, who says you only have to get it as a gift on V day from your men. You can always gift it to yourself right? :D

Maybelline Lip Polish Pop 5 - Review, Swatches

The new Maybelline Lip Polishes are finally available in stores and I just bought two very pretty shades. One is Pop 5, the color that is the focus of today's post and the other is Glam 12, a beautiful coral. Earlier, I had reviewed Glam 13 and you can check out the review here

These Lip Polishes are priced at Rs 450 and is a liquid color balm. They have the shine of a lip gloss, color of a lipstick and takes care of the lips like a lip balm. And yes, I am in love with them and it is mostly because of the smooth, creamy and non-sticky texture. While I do wish that the pigmentation was more intense, I love that they are so hydrating and does not make lips dry.

Pop 5 is a lovely pink shade which actually looks much more intense in the tube than it does on the lips. I have tried both the Pop and Glam shades and while the texture is the same, color intensity of the Glam shades is much more. The Pop shades are pretty sheer and give a light wash of color. Dunno why Maybelline did not give these things names. So weird calling them Pop and Glam!

Anyway, Pop 5 is a light pink on the lips and is perfect for day time and for work. On its own, it comes off quite sheer but if you want more color pay off, just layer it on top of a pink lipstick or lip liner and it will look great. It gives good coverage though and takes a couple of swipes to cover pigmentation. So to describe it properly, it covers pigmentation but is a light color on the lips. If you layer it on top of lipstick, it will obviously last longer. On its own, it lasts a couple of hours on me.

There are few darker shades in this range and I'm gonna get those next. There is one that looks very similar to MAC's famous Rebel lipstick and one in a gorgeous red. I think you must have realised by now how much I'm loving these. Just go try one. You will love too!

Have you tried any of the Maybelline Lip Polishes?

Maybelline Baby Lips Color Bright Collection Neon Rose - Review, Swatch

When you see the word neon what do you think? That its going to be a really bright color right? Well, that's what I thought as well when I picked up the new Maybelline Baby Lips Brights lip balm in the shade Neon Rose. I was ecstatic when I first came across the image of the package at nykaa.com. Baby Lips is one of my favorite lip balms and a neon pink color in it was just irresistible. I did not bother checking out the swatches online and just went ahead and ordered it for Rs 150.

Maybelline Baby Lips Color Bright Collection Neon Rose

The Baby Lips Brights were launched in the US some months back under the name of the Electro Collection in a different packaging and different shade names. Here, three of them have been released and they are Neon Rose, Tangerine Pop and Pink Peony. The USP of these shades according to Maybelline is bright color and continuous moisture along with SPF 16.

Well, I agree with the continuous moisture claim but definitely not the bright color one. No idea why they named it Neon Rose when the color is not neon at all. On the lips, its a sheer pink and if you have very pigmented lips, then the color probably won't even show up. Honestly, I didn't find any difference between this and the regular baby lips in terms of color payoff. Both are equally sheer. I like the texture of the Brights more though. It's not as waxy as the regular ones and I also found it to be more moisturising. It's very smooth, glides on the lips and stays on for a wee bit longer but definitely not for 6 hrs per Maybelline's claims.

Do I like Neon Rose more than the older Baby Lips? Yes I do but only because of the superior texture and the fact that its more moisturising. Very disappointed with the color payoff though. Wish Maybelline did not mislead us in naming these 'Brights'. No point in making the packaging and the color of the balm very bright when nothing much shows up on the lips.

Maybelline Baby Lips Color Bright Collection Neon Rose Lip Swatch

If you want to buy these new Baby Lips for color, you will be disappointed unless you like sheer balms. If you want to buy these to get rid of dry lips then you won't regret spending Rs 150.

What's your favorite lip balm? Do share in the comments below.

Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Liner 36 Hr Formula 01 Black - Review

Maybelline has launched another product and this time it is a newer and better version of the very popular and now discontinued, Lasting Drama Gel Liner 24 Hr formula. And what is the difference? Here goes:
  • This new improved formula has a staying power of 36 hours!!
  • It's an Oil-free formula that holds highly concentrated pigments in a clear gel base
  • Is more intense and very black
  • Is waterproof and smudge proof
  • Has a creamy glide and a smoother texture

Now I must admit that I have not tried the 24h formula of the gel liner so I have nothing to compare this new one with. In fact, I have not really used a lot of gel liners. The only one I have is MAC's Blacktrack and even that I rarely bring out because I don't like the thick texture. And this area is where Maybelline's new Lasting Drama Gel Liner scores majorly. The texture is really smooth and creamy and I felt as if I'm just painting my lids with the brush.

Packaging:

In terms of packaging, the liner comes in a little plastic tub and it's really tiny, the quantity much less than I expected. But then on the other hand, it will also finish up faster! The tub reminds me of the L'oreal infallible eyeshadow packaging. The tub looks round but once you open the lid, you can see the square shape. I also like the brush that comes with the liner. Its just not just a flimsy worthless thing thrown in but is of a decent size and quite sturdy. The bristles are quite soft and great for applying thin precise lines as well as thick ones. The brush also comes with a tiny cap so the hygiene part is dealt with as well.

Pigmentation:

The gel liner comes only in black and even though Maybelline claims the color to be richly pigmented, I actually did not see that much intensity on the first application. It might be because I don't scoop up a lot of product at the first go and much prefer layering the color to get the desired thickness. After about 3 swipes, the black however did get quite dark on the upper lids. I used it on my waterline as well but there, the pigmentation was not that intense. In fact, it was rather mild even after 3 swipes. The finish is matte and I like that .

Texture

I love how smooth and creamy it is and once applied, the liner dries very quickly and just does not budge. The texture is a lot creamier than Blacktrack and that is why application is so smooth and easy.

Staying Power

Kudos to Maybelline for creating a liner that stays for 36 hours but I wonder who is actually gonna test whether it really does last for 36h?? Well I'm sure not gonna roam around with eyeliner on for 3 days but yes, this thing does stay on for a really long time. I have got around 10 hrs out of it and I did not see any smudging or fading at the end of those 10 hrs. Its real test will be in summer but for now, I vouch for the long lasting claim. I easily remove the liner with my trusted eye makeup remover - Johnson's Baby Oil.

Took this picture about six hours after applying the liner

In a  nutshell, the pros and cons of the new Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Liner 36 Hr Formula 01 Black are:

  • Very creamy and smooth and makes application very easy
  • Very long lasting
  • The brush quality is good
  • Gives a matte finish
  • Pigmentation could have been a bit more intense
  • The quantity could have been more
I am loving the Maybelline Gel Liner because of its creamy texture and if you want to use a gel liner but have shied away from one thinking its just too much of a hassle, I would suggest you try this. It just glides on the lids and gives a nice matte finish. And of course, the liner will stay on for hours as well. All in all, a good, reliable, long lasting eye liner at an affordable price. I hope Maybelline comes out with more colors in the same formula.

Nails of the Day with Maybelline Color Show and Rimmel

I have a love/hate relationship with nail polish. Sometimes I hate to see anything on my nails so stay far away from polish and sometimes I'll change the color of my nails every day. And right now, I am in the latter phase :D. Yesterday, I picked up three new colors from the Maybelline Color Show range (they are seriously addictive!) and immediately wore one on my return home. I went for sparkly silvery nails and used the shade Silver Linings topped off with Rimmel's Disco Ball.

Maybelline Color Show Nail Polishes in Kiss-me-Pink & Blackcurrant Pop

I'm sure all of you are aware of Maybelline's latest launch by now. The Color Show range of nail polishes are the rage in the blogging world and I'm joining in to show you two lovely shades. When these polishes came out a couple of weeks back, I honestly did not expect them to be priced at Rs 75 and I give the folks at Maybelline a big hug for keeping them so affordable. On my FB page, a lady commented that she buys them for nearly Rs 300 in the Middle East! And I've heard that they are priced much higher in other countries as well. Just hope Maybelline sticks to this price tag and does not hike it soon.

The Color Show range has 40 shades though I'm yet to see all the 40 in the stores. I love the colors and more so because they are so vibrant and pretty. Just coz they are priced at Rs 75, don't think they are of an inferior quality. These polishes are super! They go opaque in two coats, dry pretty fast, give a glossy finish and have a decent wear time as well. I did notice that by the 3rd day there was a slight hint of tip wear but there was no chipping. Both shades lasted for nearly five days.

The shades I'm showing you today are Kiss-Me-Pink, a very bright fuchsia with subtle duo-chrome that reflects a tinge of blue and Blackcurrant Pop, a pretty lavender creme. I've topped them off with Maybelline Colorama polish in Glitter Prata.

The Maybelline Color Show polishes are totally worth the hype and I can't stop raving about them. I've bought another five of these and will show them to you soon. There is a color for everyone so go pick up a few from a store near you. You won't be disappointed.

Maybelline Colossal Kajal 12 Hr Formula - Review

When Maybelline first launched the 6 hr formula of the Colossal Kajal, it had become my HG kajal for a number of reasons - it was very black, went on smoothly, stayed on the lids for 6 hrs and more without smudging, did not irritate my eyes and it was very cheap (they did jack up the prices later but it was still pretty cheap). This was the only eye liner/kajal I was using and I must have repurchased it around 10-12 times till one day I realized that I should venture out and try something new. In came brands like Faces, Ikonic and Sephora and I gradually eased out of my relationship with Colossal. But now, it has come back in a new avatar and it has managed to win me back again.

I'm on my second Colossal Kajal new 12 hr formula and it is better than the earlier version. I don't find any difference in pigmentation but this one is creamier and softer and definitely lasts longer. I've not worn this for 12 hrs so dunno if it will last that long but I've worn it for 9 and it's performance was impressive. There was slight smudging on the waterline specially towards the inner corners but on the upper lids, Colossal was intact after 9 hrs. I don't have oily lids so liners and pencils usually last longer on me but if you have oily lids, this might start to smudge earlier. My only problem with the kajal is that it gets over very fast and I hope we get more quantity. My first one did not even last a month and it's not as if I was using a lot of it everyday.

Leaving the getting over soon part aside, I really like this newer version. The quality is great and so is the price. If you are looking for a budget-friendly eye liner/kajal, go for the new Maybelline Colossal 12 hr formula. Don't think you will find a better one at this price.

The Maybelline Colossal Kajal 12 Hr Formula is priced at Rs 175. For more details, click this link - http://maybelline.co.in/catalog/product.aspx?prdcode=P5025101&catcode=F1_Kajal

Maybelline Blush Studio Cheeky Glow Peachy Sweetie - Review, Swatch

I know exactly what you are thinking right now . You are saying ‘Oh my that is such a cute looking blush’ Right? Guess how I know? Because that was exactly what I had said when I looked at this cutie the first time.

Maybelline this year has been on a roll launching a lot of new products and the latest to hit stores is the Cheeky Glow range of blushes. These have been launched in countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand etc earlier this year and now it’s our turn to make our cheeks glow. Available in three shades, the Cheeky Glow range claims to:
  • Give cheeks that glow with a natural finish
  • Have Ultra lightweight, silky blendable powders
  • Blend flawlessly
  • Give a soft texture for a natural hue
The shade that I’m talking about is Peachy  Sweetie, a light peachy pink with a hint of coral. And how cute is the name!  When I first looked at the shade, I was quite apprehensive and wondered if it would show up on my NC43 skin. The color looked more suitable for fair skin but after trying it out, I really like it. Won’t say that it is the most pigmented blush I've used and you really need to layer it on to get color but I love the healthy flushed look it gives me.

I love the dome shape packaging of the blush. Yes, its pretty flimsy and the clear lid will probably shatter to pieces if you manage to drop it but then that’s the case with practically all packaging. The blush does not come with a brush and I don’t miss one either. Most of the brushes that come with products are pretty useless anyway so good that Maybelline did not include one.

Peachy Sweetie has fine shimmer when you look at it in the pan but on the cheeks the finish is matte with a slight sheen. I like the texture of the blush and at Rs 250, the quality is pretty good. It’s soft, smooth, not powdery and does not turn chalky on application. And it blends very well too.

The only problem I have with the blush is that the pigmentation is not that great. Like I mentioned earlier, you will need to layer it on for color. I do it about 4-5 times to get that light flush on the cheeks. However this has an advantage as well. You can control how much color you want and that is something not always possible with blushes that are highly pigmented. The staying power is decent and I get about four hours of wear time without the color fading away or turning patchy. However, on oily skin, it will probably last less than that.

Peachy Sweetie is a lovely color for office and daily wear and I see the Cheeky Glow range becoming a hit specially with teens and college going students. For Rs 250, the amount of product that you get is a lot (7g) and the quality is pretty good too. Out of all the shades that I've seen in this range, I think Peachy Sweetie is probably the best of the lot for that natural flushed look. Would recommend you to try out this one.

Maybelline Bold Matte Color Sensational Lip Color in MAT5 - Review, Swatch

I don’t think any of Maybelline India’s recent launches have evoked as much curiosity and excitement as the launch of the Bold Matte range of lipsticks have.  The first time the promo pic was posted on their fb page, there were countless conversations between beauty bloggers and non-beauty bloggers alike on whether ‘they’ were atlast making an appearance in India. Who they? Well, the much awaited and loved Vivids of course! Oh how much we've longed for Maybelline to get them here. But sigh no luck this time but don’t be too depressed pretties coz the Bold Mattes are here to take away those blues and add a dash of bold color to your lives.

The Bold Mattes were released in other parts of Asia early this year and the range comprises five lipsticks in bold shades of red, pink and coral. This is what Maybelline has to say about this range:
  • Maybelline Color Sensational Bold Mattes has a mattifying milk which gives a hydrated matte finish
  • Hydrating matte with nourishing agents like honey nectar, jojoba oil and Rosa canina
  • Powderless matte pigments ensure true vivid shade

The shade I got for review is MAT5, a bright blue red. I seriously think that the brand has come to know of my weakness for reds somehow coz this is the 3rd time in a row that I've been sent a red shade for review. Not that I mind at all and especially when the color is as gorgeous as MAT5. Why you no name these lipsticks Maybelline in India? The ones launched in the other countries have such pretty names and for us only boring numbers? Not fair at all!

I love the packaging of these lipsticks with its bright red outer case. Reminds me so much of the Vivids (sighhh). I've already told you about the color and its one that is bright yet very much wearable. Not sure about the rest of the shades, but MAT5 is not neon so those who shy away from bright colors, can give it a try. Now I’m coming to the confusing part and that’s the actual name of the lipstick. Dunno why these are called mattes because they feel very creamy and moisturizing on the lips. I know that Maybelline calls them a hydrating matte but I’ll say these are hydrating semi-mattes. When you first apply the lipstick, it will feel very creamy and glossy but after a few minutes, it settles down to a semi-matte finish with a slight sheen on the lips. I love that the lipstick is fragrance free. Completely averse to strong smelling lipsticks!

In terms of pigmentation, MAT5 is good but having tried the Vivids, I can say that this one lacks slightly in the pigmentation department as compared to that range.  You have to swipe a couple of times to get good color payoff. I was actually expecting a very bright and bold lip but the intensity is not as much as the Vivids. I know its not fair to compare since the Vivids are not here yet but just wanted to share my thoughts since I have lipsticks from both ranges now. However by no means is the pigmentation and color payoff bad, as has been written by our blogger friends in Singapore and Malaysia. No idea why they trashed these lipsticks though. I’m quite liking it!

Coming to the staying power, it does not last for more than 3 hrs on me, as do most hydrating lipsticks but I like that it leaves a slight red tint after fading. It’s not transfer proof either so you will be leaving lipstick marks on whatever your lips touches.

At Rs 375, I think the Bold Matte range of lipsticks is very much worth a try. It does have its Cons :
  • if you are expecting a totally matte lipstick , you will be disappointed
  • it has ok staying power and
  • not transfer proof.

But it has a number of Pros too –
  • the red color is fabulous and one that will work on all skin tones without looking too loud
  • color payoff is good
  • is hydrating and moisturizing so great for those with dry lips
  • applies effortlessly
  • deposits color evenly
  • feels weightless on the lips
  • has natural nourishing ingredients and
