My Favorite Celebrity Looks from the IIFA 2014 Main Awards Night

The IIFA Awards took place in Tampa Bay, Florida over the weekend and the Bollywood brigade was dressed to kill. The main awards ceremony took place yesterday and amidst all the celebrities, a few really stood out for me for their dress and makeup.

First up is Priyanka Chopra wearing a Monique Lhuillier gown with smokey eyes and nude lips. I know I've complained endlessly about Priyanka's makeup in the past but this look is absolutely flawless. The gown is stunning and so is the makeup and updo to go with it. The lipstick is very similar to MAC's Creme in Your Coffee and if you are looking for a neutral shade in MAC, do check it out! My only gripe with the styling is the addition of the gold cuffs. I think they were unnecessary. What are your thoughts?

  • To get the look right, it is essential to use compact or loose powder to set the foundation and control oil
  • Use Avon Glimmerstick Diamond Eyeliner – Twilight sparkle and create a thick/thin liner, depending on your preference
  • Smudge the liner to get an eye shadow effect followed by Super Extended Extreme mascara for fuller lashes
  • Apply a blush in pink shades like Rose Lustre shade of Ideal luminous blush for a healthy glow

Glam up your eyes for every occasion with FACES Cosmetics

Eyes being one of the most important features of the face, it requires the same importance while doing your makeup. So let your eyes attract all the attention in the coming party season. Bring perfection to your makeup by beautifully done eyes with FACES cosmetics.

  • Start with applying a thin coat of Eye primer from your lids all the way up under your eyebrow, it really helps give your eye shadow staying power.
  • With the lightest shade of eyeshadow, cover both eyelids.
  • Depending on your look choose from a medium to darker shade of eyeshadow and start working at the very top of your lid and sweep across. This is in the crease area of your eye, and should be barely visible above the crease. Blend with a finger or sponge.
  • Moving on to the lightest shade of eyeshadow, sweep from the crease all the way up under the eyebrow. As with the previous shade, blend with a finger or makeup sponge.
  • Add eyeliner on the top lids. If you use dark or liquid eyeliner, you can blend it into the bottom lid for a smoky look. If you have large eyes, line below the eyes as well.

Black Smokey Eyes with MAC's Scarlet Ibis lipstick - FOTD

Hey Pretties

Today I was playing around with colors in the evening and decided to try out a really black smokey eye look. Now going by makeup rules, smokey eyes are best paired with nude lips but I've never been one to follow rules, so out came my bright orange-red MAC Scarlet Ibis lipstick. For the eyes, I first covered my entire lid up to the crease with the Colorbar ultimate liner and once done, patted black eye shadow on top of it to diffuse the starkness and give that smokey look. I used Maybelline's Colossal Kajal to line the waterline and also applied the black eye shadow on top of the kajal. Skipped the liner on top and mascara but if you want to try this and really glam up your look, line the upper lids and give your lashes a good coating of mascara.

For the lips, I applied two swipes of Scarlet Ibis to really pack on the color and that's it. Did not use a lip liner or a lip brush. Since I was only experimenting at home, my face was absolutely bare except for moisturizer.

This is a look that is definitely not subtle and one that will make you stand out. If you want to try it for a night out, first use an eye primer else there is a chance that the shadow will go all over the place leaving you with raccoon eyes. Keep the face makeup minimal so that attention is only on the eyes and lips. Just use foundation and concealer only where you need to and blend well. A nude blush on the cheeks and add in a bit of highlighter but make sure it has absolutely no glitter. I would recommend the Colorbar highlighter pen or the highlighter in Sleek's Face Form palette. Both are really good and give the face a lovely glow. That's really all that you need. Instant glamour in 10 mins! I went in for an orange red lip but this will look equally good with a fuchsia or a hot pink. MAC's Girl About Town, Impassioned, Revlon Colorburst Fuchsia, L'oreal's Intense Fuchsia, Colorbar's Oh My Magenta are some good options.

Here's how I looked pairing Scarlet Ibis with a black smokey eye..

And the products used:

1. NYX I Dream Of Jamaica palette
2. Colorbar Ultimate Liner
3. Maybelline Colossal Kajal
4. MAC Scarlet Ibis lipstick

How do you wear a smokey eye? With nude lipstick or a bright one?

Making Up A Friend - Two Simple Looks

I've always loved applying makeup on others and giving them different looks. It definitely helps when you have willing friends who let me experiment on them. Today Ill share a couple of simple looks that I tried on my friend T. One, a day look and one a typical Bengali look for the Pujas. I don't have any before pics unfortunately so you will have to make do with the after pics only.

T as you can see is a gorgeous woman with a peaches and cream complexion so I didn't really have to do anything. It was all about enhancing what is already beautiful. In the below look, I used a hint of foundation to even out the skin tone, a nude pink blush on the apples of the cheek, a neutral eye shadow with blue eye pencil and a light pink lipstick. That's it!

I kept the Puja look simple as well. Foundation mixed with a bit of golden shimmer for an added glow to the face, gold eye shadow with a hint of green, black kohl and red lipstick.

Let me know what you think :)
