Sunsilk Perfect Straight Shampoo and Nourishing Conditioner - Review, Before & After Pics

By now all of you must have known that Sunsilk has launched a new shampoo and conditioner range which aims to give straight hair and keep it that way for 24 hrs. I believe the products will be launched in the market today but thanks to my participation in the Sunsilk Straight Hair Experiment contest (where I was one of the 5 bloggers to get featured in yahoo and idiva :P), I got to try them before everyone else did. I've been using the products for a couple of days now so all set to share my thoughts on whether the they live up to their impressive claims.

The shampoo and conditioner, co-created by Yoko Yamashita ( a straight hair specialist who is really famous!) together are described by Sunsilk as the world's first conditioning system that actively controls how your hair dries, giving superior straight alignment right from the shower. It has straight lock technology that encourages hair to dry straight and keep it that way for 24 hrs. This description is enough to make everyone take notice because its really revolutionary right! Honestly, when I first heard about the products, I scoffed at the claims. How can a shampoo and a conditioner make hair straight? One is meant to clean hair and the other to nourish and soften it. Won't say I wasn't intrigued but I was skeptical too. So have my views changed? Read on...

My first impression of the product packaging? Nice. Love the purple bottles and they look pretty stylish too.

Now the Products Themselves

Shampoo - It lathers up pretty well and has a very pleasant fragrance. Rinses off pretty easily too. What I liked after using the shampoo was how smooth my hair felt. No hair fall and no tangles. Full of chemicals though!. You might find it silly but I was constantly checking my hair in the mirror after rinsing probably expecting super straight hair then and there itself. Well, that did not happen and my hair looked pretty much the same. So, I moved on to the conditioner.

Conditioner - This is actually the product that is supposed to straighten so use both of them together. The conditioner is meant to be applied at the lower part of the hair, kept on for a minute and then rinsed off. I kept it for about 5 mins though before rinsing. Like the shampoo, the fragrance is pretty nice. So what did I do after rinsing off? I again checked in the mirror and yet no sign of straight hair. My hair felt super soft and smooth though which I absolutely loved.

I must have been checking the mirror after every 10 mins to see some kind of a miracle taking place. Now before I go on further to let you know whether they actually worked, let me describe my hair. Its wavy, curls at the ends, quite frizzy and in general very unruly so what I saw in the mirror after about a couple of hours really pleased me. No, they were not poker straight but looked much well-behaved!. One of the most annoying characteristics of my hair is that it starts getting wavy as it dries but in this case, I saw that it had mellowed down and fell quite nicely on the shoulders.

Now let's move on to what happened after the hair completely dried up? Poker Straight Hair? No and I'm being very blunt about it. Smooth, Soft, Silky, Shiny Hair, Minus Frizz and Flyaways? YES in capital letters! The curls at the ends were still there but considerably lesser in number. For me, more than a straightening shampoo and conditioner, these are products that smoothen the hair giving it a sleek and polished look. The strange thing is that they really do seem to control how the hair dries so the drier the hair, the smoother it looks. Thus the effect after say 7-8 hrs will be a lot more than say 2-3 hrs. And it does last for more than a day! What I also loved was that it did not make my hair limp and flat. I have wavy hair and I did notice a change so it must work really well on those with naturally straight hair.

So whats the verdict?

If you are looking to replace the straightening iron with the Sunsilk Perfect Straight Shampoo and Conditioner, then ditch the idea. But if you are looking for products that will give you Smooth, Soft, Silky, Shiny Hair, Minus Frizz and Flyaways then go and buy these products. Don't think you will be disappointed.
