Dabur has recently launched the Dabur Vatika Olive Hair Oil and I've been testing this product for sometime now. Must admit that I've never been too fond of oiling my hair and the only reason is that washing it off is nothing less than a nightmare. Be it the lightest or the heaviest hair oil, I'll have to shampoo my hair at least five to six times to get it all off and I just cant gather the energy or the enthusiasm to go through that process regularly. But then maintaining the quality of my hair has kinda forced me to religiously oil it atleast once a week and it's the new Dabur Vatika Olive Hair Oil that I've been trying out.

Experience Hair Art with Namrata Soni

If you love styling your hair, then this post is definitely for you. If you don't and belong to the 'hairstyling klutz community' of which I can probably be the President, this post is also for you. The best part is that there are step by step instructions on how you can do these yourself and you will see that they are actually pretty doable.

My favorite is the Princess Twirl because it's classy, elegant and yet gives off such a boho, free spirited vibe. Besides, its also very easy to create. Think even I can do it!

I've been trying out the newer formula of the serum along with the Deep Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner and I must say that this range is great for anyone who has dry and frizzy hair. The shampoo and conditioner actually makes my hair straighter after washing and the serum adds the shine and detangles. I usually apply the serum to my hair after towel drying. I take about 3-4 drops on my palm, rub hands together so that the serum is slightly warm and then apply it from the middle of my hair to the ends. Avoid applying any kind of serum to the scalp or the crown since it will only weigh your hair down and make it look limp.  

I like that the serum has a pleasant fragrance and that it absorbs quite fast. It's light, non-sticky and makes hair a lot more manageable. You can definitely use it either with this range or separately. Here are a few uses of the serum:

The Long Hair Range Shampoo and Conditioner - Update

Ok so I've been using the 'mystery' long hair range shampoo and conditioner for some more days since giving you the last update and my verdict is still the same. I love how soft and smooth this range is making my hair. I still don't know what the brand is but they sure made a great product specially for those with frizzy and unmanageable hair.

I'm hoping that the range is sulfate and paraben free keeping in mind the fact that the shampoo does not lather much. I'm also hoping that its from a brand that's easily available and not priced too high. And guess what? The big reveal takes place later today! Are you as excited as I am to know what product I've been trying for so long? Then hang on for just a few more hours and keep watching this space :D

The Long Hair Range Shampoo and Conditioner - First Impression

Remember I shared with you in this post that I'm trying out a shampoo and conditioner that claims to make me love my hair even more? No, I still have not figured out the name and the brand but I have been using the products everyday and they are pretty good.

The shampoo and conditioner smell lovely and I'm really happy for that. As much as I hate any fragrance in makeup, I do not use hair products unless they smell good. So these 'mystery' products score in that parameter for me.

Now for the minute details. The shampoo is not too thick or runny and it also does not lather much. So I'm thinking it's probably sulfate-free but not sure. What I like about the shampoo is that its quite gentle and after washing off, the hair feels quite soft and smooth. It does not give volume but makes the hair frizz free which is great. Another plus point is that there is no hair fall or tangled hair. I have dry hair and it suits me perfectly so quite happy with the performance.

The conditioner is not too thick either but quite creamy. I love that it does not weigh my hair down or make it look limp. Paired with the shampoo, my tresses are nowadays looking and feeling very good!

So that was my initial impression of the two products and I'll give you a second update very soon. Watch out!

Love Long Hair?

Love long hair and looking for products that not just cleanses your long hair but also makes it strong, shiny and soft? Well there are two products that claim to do just that.

Kérastase introduces Volumifique, the renovation of its Volumactive range for fine, flyaway hair

Women with fine hair often complain that their hair is fragile and their hair fibre tends to break easily. Fine hair tends to be flat at the roots and becomes oily quite quickly. Say hello to winter hair! - Marcus Francis TRESemmé’s Global Hairstylist shares tips, tricks and winter essentials

Have you felt the chill in the air? Yes, right? Winter has arrived, bringing in the most pleasant climate of the year but not so welcoming for your hair. The cool winter breeze often leaves your hair dehydrated and unmanageable leading to problems like dandruff, dry scalp, frizzy hair etc. Therefore, it is important that you take special care of your tresses during this time. 

TRESemmé’s Global Hairstylist, Marcus Francis shares some tips to keep your mane healthy and lustrous and the scalp sqeaky clean this season. 

Moisturize

• During winter it’s very important to keep your hair hydrated and nourished with conditioners and hair masques
• Apply a generous amount of a suitable hair masque from mid-length to the ends for 3-5 minutes and then rinse off. Ideally this should be practiced twice a week
• A good option for masques is the newly launched TRESemmé Anti Breakage Masque and TRESemmé Smooth and Shine Masque. Its intense conditioning properties make hair softer, smoother and more manageable.

Don't be harsh

• Do not shampoo your hair too often as it depletes your natural hair oils. 2-3 times a week may suffice 
• Avoid washing your hair with hot water in winter as it leaves your scalp dry and flaky and brittles your hair.Luke warm to cold water is ideal 
• It’s recommended to change your regular shampoo every 3-6 to avoid your hair getting immune to it.

Lay off the Heat

• Avoid excessive use of hair dryers during winter months. Blow drying your already brittle and dry hair will only make them worse
• If you have to attend a party and need to dry or style your hair, try the cool setting of your dryer. There is a reason why it’s there! Your hair might take longer to dry but the shine in your hair will be well worth it 
• Air dry your hair as far as possible to avoid the harshness of the dryer 

Protect and cover your hair

• Whenever you are stepping out in the cold, keep your head covered, especially your crown
• If you're using a knitted cap to cover your head, wear a silk scarf underneath. This will provide a protective barrier from your hat and an extra layer against harsh textures and elements
• Use hats with a satin or silk lining, as wool, cotton and other fibers not only absorb moisture but also rub on the hair strands, which can be damaging. Hoods are also a great option.

Use hair friendly hair gear

• A common way to secure hair when stepping outside is wearing hair pins 
• Secure your hair with bobby pins or elastic bands that do not contain metal components, as these pieces can cause breakage when they're removed because hair becomes tangled or wrapped around the metal 
• Opt for elastic bands wrapped only in fabric or small clear elastic bands which are perfect for the ends of a braid

Recently, Marcus Francis- TRESemmé’s Global stylist was in India and I got the opportunity to ask him some common hair related queries. Would have loved to meet him and conduct the interview but since that was not possible, the lovely folks at TRESemme arranged for an e-interview. Read on to get some hair care tips from Marcus.

1. How to get rid of split ends?

Spilt ends are the most common problem. The reasons for split ends can be excessive use of styling products as they generate heat that takes away moisture from the hair and makes it dehydrated. It can also happen due to over shampooing. I suggest proper conditioning of hair from mid-length to (especially) lower tips. Proper conditioning also helps retain moisture and nourishment in hair making it soft and smooth. TRESemmé has really great range of conditioners which can help retain moisture in hair.

2. What’s the best hair style for a round face?
Round face looks fuller around the cheeks and one must choose hairstyles that can deflect the roundness of your face. Long hair with layering works best for a round face as it provides length to the face. Side swept bangs works well as it gathers attention more towards your eyes, deviating from face.

3. How to deal with hairfall and thinning hair?
For hairfall I suggest adequate conditioning of hair which will prevent hair from breakage. 5. What's the best hair color for dark skin?
I think for Indian skin colour keeping variations of hair tones will work well. Having more warm and rich hair tones towards the ends will help retain healthiness around your hair and scalp. Also, one doesn't require frequent touch-ups.

The Products that Give Me Glossy and Smooth Hair!

I've noticed that when I meet women, they invariably at some point ask questions about my hair. Please don't think that I'm boasting but the fact is that I do have shiny and silky hair (Touch wood Touch wood!!) and I've had that since I was a kid. I also used to have pretty thick hair which by now has thinned considerably but the glossiness thankfully has remained. Many of my friends and acquaintances have asked me about my haircare regime so that's what I'm going to do talk about in this post. Will share with you the products I'm using currently and what extra I do to take care of my mane.

When I talk of a hair care regime, it's actually pretty basic. I've never believed in using a ton of products and my mantra in life has always been to keep it simple. I have normal - dry hair so all these products are for that hair type. These have given me good results and that's why I'm sharing with you. If you have the same hair type as I do, you can definitely give these a try but remember hair and skin care products react differently on different individuals. So don't come and catch me if for some reason they don't work for you :D.

Here are the products :

1. Macadamia Natural Oil Rejuvenating Shampoo for Dry or Damaged Hair - I bought this shampoo from strawberrynet after hearing a lot of good things about the Macadamia range of products. The shampoo is sulfate and paraben free and is safe for my color treated hair. Usually shampoos without sulfates and parabens tend to make hair dry and I also dislike the fact that they don't lather much. This one lathers very well and is excellent for my dry hair. Even if I skip conditioner, my hair does not feel dry at all.

2. Schwarzkopf Color Save Treatment - This hair mask protects color from fading and it also deep conditions to give healthy and shiny hair. This is quite a rich mask and I use it as a conditioner pretty much everytime I shampoo. I love how soft and smooth it makes my hair and the glossiness is partly due to this product.

3. Kerastase Oleo Relax Anti Frizz Serum - We all know how super Kerastase products are and this one is no exception. I use this serum everyday and I feel as if something's missing if I don't. It's lightweight, absorbs in a jiffy, excellent in controlling frizz, smells wonderful and instantly gives shiny and manageable hair. Love it!

4. L'oreal Mythic Oil - I think I have the world's weirdest hair when it comes to rinsing off oil. It just does not let go of the oil no matter how light it is.Rinsing off is pure torture and unless I shampoo at least 6-7 times, the oil refuses to come off. That's why I've stopped using natural oils and switched to L'oreal 's Mythic oil. This one is perfect for me as it is very light and does not cling on to the strands. It washes off easily and leaves me with silky, smooth hair.

That's really it. Apart from the above products, I just get a hair spa once a month but even that's not a regular to do item in my calendar. It's only when I remember that I go book an appointment. What I do however is eat a lot of protein and drink milk or have yoghurt everyday and those are super foods for the hair. Nourishment from within is as important, if not more as nourishment from outside so do up your intake of protein and calcium if you want healthy hair. And refrain from regular blow drying or straightening and curling hair. Heat makes hair brittle and dry and it does nothing good. Keep it simple. Keep it natural. Your hair will thank you for it :)

Kerastase Paris Nutritive Oleo -Relax Anti-frizz Serum - Review

Hair serums are something I'm addicted to and use every single day without fail. I've been using L'Oreal for quite a few years now but after using the Kerastase Nutritive Oleo -Relax Serum, I don't think I'm gonna go back to any other brand. Well, Kerastase is also a L'Oreal product but here by L'Oreal I meant the non-Kerastase products. This stuff is absolutely amazing for my normal-dry hair.

My Thoughts -

This bright orange bottle is my very own bottle of sunshine! I love how bright and sunny it looks and the advantage of being transparent is that you get to know how much product is used up. The pump dispenser pumps out just the right amount of product so you will never face the possibility of dispensing too much. The clear liquid is very light and weightless and sinks into the hair very fast. I love how the serum smells, like a good perfume and that smell lasts for quite a well. I use the serum after towel drying my hair and apply about two pumps. I rub it on to the palms and start applying from the ends going upwards to the middle. Like I mentioned, the liquid is very light and absorbs fast. There is no greasy film on top of the hair. I very rarely apply heat or any styling product on my hair so I just let it dry naturally. Once the hair is all dry, it feels soft, smooth, silky and smells fantastic! I don't have a frizz problem but this does work on smoothening hair and making it a lot more manageable, without weighing it down. All you pretties with normal-dry hair looking for an anti-frizz solution, the Kerastase Nutritive Oleo Relax Serum should be a good buy for you. 

That's all I need for my shoulder length hair

I honestly do not find any faults with this product. My hair loves it and I'm sure you will too if you are looking for a smoothing serum. The only con is its price as with all other Kerastase products. But be assured, one bottle will easily last for about 4 months depending on the length of your hair.

L'Oreal Professionel Mythic Oil Rich Oil - Review

About a month and a half back when I went to my salon for a session of hair pampering, the therapist suggested that I do a L'oreal Mythic Oil treatment to give some relief to my dry tresses. Ever ready to try out something new I agreed and was transported to a world of hair pampering bliss for an hour. I really liked how soft, shiny and manageable my hair looked after the Mythic Oil treatment and since I was looking to buy a serum, decided to give the Rich Oil in the Mythic Oil range a shot. 

The oil is called a 'Controlling' oil for unruly hair. Never heard that term being used for an oil, but in short what it does is that it reduces frizz and tames hair to make it more manageable. Here's what L'Oreal has to say about the Rich oil. Rich Oil is a perfect blend of two essential oils – Rice bran oil and Argan oil. While rice bran oil is known for its intensely moisturizing and regenerative properties, argan oil is known for deeply nourishing and disciplining properties. Together they are mixed in a rich, wrapping texture, which provides rebellious tresses with deep nourishment, anti-frizz protection and makes them soft, smooth, shiny and effortlessly detangled. Rich Oil can be used as both a construction and a finishing product. My therapist told me that this oil can be used as a traditional oil, that is massaged into the scalp and then washed off, as a serum to be applied after washing hair and as a styling product to be used before or after blow drying. Till date, I've only been using it as a serum so that's what Ill talk about.

The oil is inside a gold tinted plastic bottle with a pump dispenser. The bottle has an exotic look to it which is attractive and it has a sturdy cap, so no tension of spillage if you are taking this while travelling. The oil has a warm amber fragrance which is very pleasant. The dispenser is easy to control so no fear of accidentally getting a lot of product on your hands. 

Now there is a way of using the oil. What I do is I take the product in my hands (about a couple of pumps), rub my palms to warm it up and then start applying it first to the ends of the hair and then slowly move upward. I don't apply it to the scalp but only to the hair and then comb it through. The texture of the oil is incredibly light so it gets absorbed within seconds. The hair neither feels oily nor weighed down. I just let my hair airdry after applying the oil and within some time it gets smooth, silky and manageable . Surprisingly, my hair dries a lot faster after I've used this product!

The Rich Oil majorly targets taming unruly hair so if you are looking at this as the solution to treat dryness, you will not get the result you are looking for. In that way, I'm slightly disappointed coz I thought this would do wonders to my dry tresses and solve the problem considerably. I won't say that it does not. It does but not to the extent that I want. Another word of caution. It does not treat split ends, if that is another of your concern. What the oil does do well is that it makes hair more manageable by smoothing out frizz and it definitely looks more shiny and feels soft. Its great as a styling product as well. I've used it a couple of times before blowdrying and after and the results were good. 

I don't have oily hair so I don't know if it will make oily hair greasy. But since the oil is pretty light, don't think oily hair beauties will have any problem. I bought the Rich Oil from the salon at Rs 900 and this is a 125 ml bottle so I see this lasting me for another 3 months easily. This range also has a shampoo and a masque that you can try along with the Rich Oil to deeply nourish hair. I intend to buy those two too to see if it makes a difference to the dryness. If your main purpose is to use a styling product cum serum that tames frizz, the Mythic Oil Rich Oil can be a good choice.
