NYX Super Fat Eye Marker Carbon Black - Review, Swatch, EOTD

NYX Super Fat Eye Marker Carbon Black

When I was a kid, I was really fond of coloring and would pester my mum to buy me those fat activity/coloring books and would spend hours over them. I had absolutely no talent in drawing but coloring was something I really enjoyed. In fact even now when I buy those books for my 7 yr old niece, I'm the one to finish half the pages :D. Maybe its a throwback to my inner sketch pen loving child but this NYX Super Fat Eye Marker has always intrigued me. A product that makes getting the definition of liquid liner as easy as drawing with a marker… sounds good, right?

NYX Super Fat Eye Marker Carbon Black

I bought the NYX Super Fat Eye Marker a couple of months back when medplusbeauty was having a NYX sale. I wanted a liquid liner but something hassle free and this NYX Marker seemed a perfect choice because I always prefer a thick line of kohl/liner/kajal than a thin one. This product looks and feels exactly like the typical marker and has a pointed felt tip which makes lining eyes very easy. There are quite a few reasons why I like this product as an eye liner and would definitely recommend to you.

1. This can be used by anyone from the eye lining whiz to the nervous newbie who can never get a precise line. The felt tip makes it very easy and all you need to do is follow your eye shape.

2. Pigmentation is great and the color is a rich dark black. I like that the color flows evenly on to the felt tip so there are no uneven patches.

3. The finish is semi-matte. It starts off as slightly glossy and then dries down to a semi-matte finish.

4. Even though the tip is quite thick, you can draw thin lines as well. The winged liner look is very easy to do with this pen.

5. The liner lasts all day! I wear it to work and even after 9 hours there is no smudging or fading.

6. Even though it's smudgeproof, it's not a pain to take off.

7. Lasts for a long time without the color drying up.

Even though I love this liner, it's not 100% perfect and has a couple of cons.

1. This works very well on the upper lashline but hardly shows up on the waterline or lower lash line. Tightlining is also something I won't do with this pen.

2. After a month of regular wear, I've seen that the felt tip has bent slightly. Still does a great job though.

I've used the NYX Super Fat Eye Marker on my lids and the Body Shop Color Crush eyeshadow Something Blue on the lower lashline

I really like this liner because its so easy to use. There are plenty of felt tip liners available today but most of them have a very thin tip which makes it difficult for us girls who like wearing a thick line. This does that job perfectly. In the US, I think this is priced around $10. I can't remember exactly how much I paid medplusbeauty for this but it was around Rs 650 (sale price though). Think the MRP is much higher.

Do you prefer the traditional liquid liners or the felt tip ones? Do share your comments below.

NARS Night Porter Eyeshadow - Review, EOTD

Night Porter is my first NARS eye shadow and I bought it after reading some wonderful things about this shade. Green is one of my favorite eye shadow colors and when I saw the swatches, just could not resist ordering it from strawberrynet for around Rs 1500.

Night Porter was released by NARS as part of the Night Series collection in 2011 and this is the color that got the best reviews. NARS has made the eye shadows permanent so you can get these at any store or online. Night Porter is a gorgeous dark forest green with a golden metallic sheen. I've used the color both dry and wet and it is easier to apply and looks much better when applied with a slightly damp brush. The color pay off is great and it looks so rich. When dry, it is stiff and hard and quite difficult to blend.  Also, not much of the shimmer shows up on the lids. There is however no creasing and fading and the color lasts for nearly 6-7 hours even without a primer.

Night Porter is a pretty unique shade and is great for a smokey eye look. It pairs wonderfully well with black, gold and any warm color. Here, I've applied Night Porter all over the lids and a bit of gold in the middle. Lined eyes with kohl and finished off with two coats of L'oreal's Volume Million mascara.

I love Night Porter because it's such a gorgeous color. Will I say it's a must have? No, I won't and the reason is that it's stiff and hard to work with. Buy it if you love the color and don't mind the texture.

Have you tried any NARS eye shadow? Which is your favorite?

EOTD with Orange, Bronzy Plum and Emerald

Yesterday evening I was going through my eye shadow collection and came across the Maybelline color tattoo in Fierce and Tangy tucked away in the corner of my makeup box. It's been a really long time since I've used the color so thought of doing a look with that bright orange shade. I bought MAC's Sable eye shadow some days back and wanted to see if it would pair well with Fierce and Tangy (Yes, I love experimenting with different colors). Also used Revlon's latest Photoready Kajal in Emerald Empire, a gorgeous dark emerald green to give that pop of color along with lots of mascara. I used the Bourjois Maxi Frange Mascara in Prune Bien Coifee. I know all these colors together sound odd but the net result wasn't too bad. Makeup is all about experimenting right?

Here's what I did :

1. Used my fingers to apply Fierce and Tangy all over the lids and blended the edges with the Real Techniques duo-fiber eye brush. The brush pokes the eye and has uneven bristles but is excellent as a blending brush and to apply color along the crease.

2. Used the same brush to apply Sable on the Crease and outer corners and blended them well. This is a gorgeous bronzy golden plum and it goes with everything. One of MAC's greatest hits and highly recommended!

3. Lined eyes with the Revlon kajal. The color is rich and very well pigmented but I did not like the texture . Way too hard and there was a bit of pulling and tugging involved.

4. Applied the Bourjois mascara. Bought it from strawberrynet so dunno if this one is available here. The color is pretty unique - a mix of plum and coffee and I like that it looks very natural. Only problem is that the mascara tends to clump if too many coats are applied.

5, Lined lower lashline with the Maybelline kajal (that got smudged slightly)

And voila the eye makeup is done! Takes about 5 mins, super easy to do, not a ton of products required and looks quite nice. What do you think? Since I was playing with colors in the evening, had to take the pics in artificial light so sorry about that!

Products used :

October Vellvette Box and a Clinique EOTD

Yess..I am extremely late in posting this but not my fault pretties, I got the October box only today. Out of the hundreds of boxes that were shipped this month, mine got misplaced by the courier company and no one could track it. Kudos to the Vellvette team for following up with me regularly and re-sending another box. I was already impressed by the quality of products that Vellvette sends out in each of the boxes but now I'm equally impressed by their customer service. For a customer, it's really important that the company pays attention to your problems and pro-actively works towards solving it and Vellvette did exactly did. Thank you to the team and I hope you continue to make us happy every month for a really long time.

So now on to the box. I got three products this month and I'm really happy with all of them.

1. Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Gold Ultra Restorative Capsules - Got 5 of these
2. Victoria's Secret Love Spell Hydrating Body Lotion 60 ml - Loving the cherry blossom and peach smell!
3. Clinique Color Surge Palette - New Clover Blush & Eyeshadow Trio
4. Discount Coupons to purchase full sized products from the Vellvette website

My favorite product in the box is the Clinique palette for sure. Really pretty colors that thankfully suit my skintone. I tried out the eyeshadows today and liked the pigmentation. Here's a look that I came up with using the pink, plummy brown and greyish black colors. For the liner, used MAC's Blacktrack and the mascara was Lakme's Eyeconic Curling Mascara.

What's your favorite product from the October box?
